If you find yourself around Union Square or Flatiron District in New York, stop by Dough, the most recent doughnut sensation in town. Fany Gerson, owner and chef, opened her first store in the unassuming neighborhood of Bedford-Stuyvesant. Soon after, word got around that there was a delicious doughnut shop that combined unexpected and unique flavors to create sweet delectable treats. Since then, Dough has been covered by the New York Times, the Gothamist, and many other renowned food networks, and has now opened a new store on 19th Street off Fifth Avenue.
From when I was little, I’ve always loved pink donuts (Naomi always got the chocolate). Whenever we went to Dunkin’ Donuts as kids I would always get a doughnut with pink icing and sprinkles. 20 years later, that craving has not gone anywhere. The first thing I ordered when I got to Dough was their, needless to say, pink hibiscus donut. It’s a shiny magenta pink, with tiny bits of dried hibiscus on the side. The tangy but sweet glaze goes perfectly with the dense chewy dough, and their coffee is just the perfect beverage to sip in between bites. We also recommend their Earl Grey donut, which is only available during certain days, so if you spot one, make sure to grab it!
